Schoeller softshell fabric is wind-resistant and water-resistant enough for dry Sierra powder days, and breathes like nothing else on a long skin. When it's actually storming, layer your hardshell over it. When it's not, this is often all you need.
This is the jacket our guides default to for spring touring — warm enough at the trailhead, breathable enough at the top, packable enough to stuff in your pack when the sun hits. If you're building a touring kit from scratch, this is the first jacket to buy.
Best for: Backcountry touring, spring skinning, high-output days in dry conditions. Not for: Stormy resort days or wet conditions — it's not waterproof. Pair with a hardshell when the forecast is uncertain.
